Pianalti del Valdarno
A land of balance, light and depth.
Here, wine is shaped by the relationship between soil, climate and the work of the winegrower.
To understand these wines, you have to begin long before the vine.
Here, wine takes shape through the meeting of soil, climate and careful farming.
An ancient land, born from water and shaped by time.
The landscape of the Pianalti del Valdarno still preserves the traces of an ancient Pliocene lake.
The Balze — the dramatic cliffs that define this landscape — are its most visible testimony.
As the waters gradually retreated, they left behind natural terraces and soils made up of gravel, sand, clay and rounded stones. This long geological history created an environment particularly suited to the vine and gave the Pianalti del Valdarno their distinctive identity.
It is within this landscape, shaped by time, that the vineyards of Pian del Pino have found their home.
Among all the features of this land, the Balze tell the geological story of the Pianalti del Valdarno better than any other.

NO TWO VINEYARDS ARE THE SAME.
Across the Pianalti del Valdarno, the landscape is constantly changing. Vineyards, olive groves, woodlands and open clearings alternate in a natural balance that enriches biodiversity.
The soils are equally diverse. Siliceous clays, sands, quartz, iron oxides, stones, gravel and ancient marine sediments give every vineyard parcel its own identity.
The climate is dry and naturally ventilated. Cool morning air renews the vineyards before a steady south-west breeze crosses the slopes, creating contrasts, microclimates and different ripening patterns.
Here, Pian del Pino covers around fifteen hectares, four of which are planted with vines, surrounded by woodland and hedgerows that protect and sustain biodiversity.
Each year these places also become the setting for events and gatherings that celebrate this story through light, art and nature.

The land finds its expression in the wine.
After shaping the landscape, it continues its work in every vineyard. The identity of Pian del Pino wines is born from the soils, the light, the winds and the biodiversity that define this place.
Soil. The ancient terraces of the Pianalti del Valdarno, rich in clay, sand, gravel and rounded stones, naturally balance vine vigour and drainage. The result is wines with character, yet never excessively heavy.
Climate.Wide day-night temperature variations and constant ventilation support slow, even ripening, preserving freshness, aromatic precision and elegance.
Biodiversity.Woods, hedgerows and natural habitats surround the vineyards, maintaining a living ecosystem that helps preserve grape quality over time.
The winegrower’s work.. All of this comes together through an approach to farming that respects nature’s balance, working with each season rather than forcing what nature has to offer.
Every bottle is therefore the expression of a journey that began long before the harvest, when water shaped this landscape and created the conditions that still define the unique character of Pian del Pino’s wines.
From landscape to glass.
To understand this land is to understand its wines.
Understanding this land means understanding its wines.
