PIAN DEL PINO
Our identity is rooted in the place where we live
and in the way we choose to care for it, season after season.
Every wine carries the character of the land and of the people who have guided it.
Pian del Pino is a small winery in the Pianalti del Valdarno, where we personally tend our vineyards and make wine exclusively from the grapes we grow. We believe that every wine should express its place, its vintage and the work done in the vineyard. We personally follow every stage, from caring for the soil to bottling.
We do not try to reproduce the same result every year. We consider the differences between vintages an essential part of each wine’s identity.
Our idea of a winery
Wine is born from the relationship between soil, vine, vintage and the work of the grower.
It is not something to manufacture, but an equilibrium to accompany.
The winegrower’s role is to keep this balance clear, intervening with restraint and only when necessary.
Quality is not achieved by adding, but by removing what is unnecessary.

Biodiversity and Sustainability
For us, biodiversity and sustainability are practical choices rather than abstract principles.
Woodlands, hedgerows, beneficial insects, local grape varieties and healthy soils all belong to the same living agricultural system, which we work to preserve year after year.
Our goal is to create an environment capable of supporting the vine naturally and renewing itself season after season.
Small productions, made by our own hands
Keeping the estate small is a practical decision.
It allows us to stay closely involved, work with greater precision and avoid unnecessary compromises.
Doing fewer things, but following them more closely, allows us to maintain direct control and achieve greater consistency in quality.

Consistency from vineyard to cellar
The cellar is simply the continuation of the work done in the vineyard.
Our approach is gentle and measured, avoiding practices that would standardise or alter the character of the grapes or the vintage.
Our goal is not to create a style, but to preserve an identity.
WHY OUR WINES ARE DISTINCTIVE
Our wines come from the Pianalti del Valdarno, a territory of well-drained soils rich in sand, gravel and siliceous components, with constant ventilation, marked temperature variations and biodiversity.
These conditions give rise to balanced, fresh and distinctive wines.
Our work in the vineyard and our choices in the cellar aim to preserve this character without standardising it.
This is why each wine remains closely connected to its place of origin and is difficult to replicate on a large scale.

Questions and Insights
It means personally overseeing every stage of our work.
We cultivate our own vineyards, vinify the grapes we grow and follow each wine through to bottling.
We cultivate our own vineyards, vinify the grapes we grow and follow each wine through to bottling.
“Made by our own hands” means exactly this: maintaining a direct connection with what we produce, from the land to the bottle.
The M.A.N. Method is the guiding principle behind everything we do at Pian del Pino.
M.A.N. stands forHands, Autonomy and Nature, three simple ideas that shape our daily work.
Hands, because we believe in direct observation and being present in the vineyard every day.
Autonomy, because we grow, vinify and bottle only the grapes we produce ourselves.
Nature, because every decision should respect the biological processes that sustain healthy soils and healthy vines.
It is not a rulebook, but a working philosophy built through experience and refined year after year within our own agricultural ecosystem.
For us, organic farming means creating the conditions for the soil to remain alive and fertile over time.
It is not simply a matter of replacing one product with another.
It means encouraging biodiversity, maintaining healthy soils and reducing dependence on external inputs as much as possible.
Woodlands, hedgerows, beneficial insects, native vegetation and vineyards all belong to the same living agricultural system and contribute to its balance.
Spontaneous fermentation relies entirely on the native yeasts naturally present on the grapes and in the winery environment.
It is a choice that reflects our philosophy because it allows us to accompany a natural process rather than replace it unnecessarily.
Is a pied de cuve a spontaneous fermentation?
Strictly speaking, no.
Although it uses indigenous yeasts, a pied de cuve is a controlled starter culture and therefore differs technically from true spontaneous fermentation.
For us, the cellar is simply a continuation of the work carried out in the vineyard.
The quality of a wine begins with the quality of the grapes.
Our role in the cellar is not to correct what comes from the vineyard, but to preserve its character, intervening only when genuinely necessary.
Our goal is to guide the wine, not to manufacture it.
Minimal intervention means doing only what genuinely benefits the wine.
It does not mean never intervening, but avoiding practices that serve no real purpose.
Every decision should have a clear technical reason and help preserve the wine’s identity.
For us, simplicity is not about doing less, but about avoiding what is unnecessary.
For us, quality is a wine’s ability to express its origin clearly.
It is not defined by concentration, power or conformity to a particular style.
A great wine should be balanced, distinctive and true to the place, the vintage and the grape varieties from which it comes.
More than anything else, it is this authenticity that defines quality.
Our small scale and limited production allow us to follow every vineyard and every wine directly.
It is not a romantic choice but a practical one.
Knowing each parcel personally, observing the vines continuously and intervening only when needed reduces the need for standardisation.
Remaining small allows us to maintain a direct relationship with everything we produce.
The identity of our wines comes from the meeting of place, vintage and farming decisions.
There is no recipe that can make a wine truly distinctive.
Every harvest brings different weather conditions and calls for different choices.
Rather than eliminating those differences, we preserve them as an essential part of each wine’s identity.
Yes.
Our wines express characteristics that we believe are deeply connected to the Pianalti del Valdarno.
They often show freshness, minerality and a vibrant tension that is unusual for inland Tuscany.
Ancient soils rich in gravel, sand and silica, together with the local climate, help produce wines that are elegant, focused and capable of ageing gracefully.
Instead of pursuing power, our aim is to preserve balance, finesse and a clear sense of place.

A truly distinctive wine is the result of a place, a vintage and the people who have chosen to guide both with respect.
